Friday Casual
And, once again, it’s Friday.
FRRRIIIIIIDDDDAAAAYYYYYY!
Whew.
I’ve made it through my irrationally grumpy week and have survived!
- I’m wearing the comfiest top today. Seriously. So comfy. From that expensive athletic wear store. Awesome.
- I have a dinner date tonight. I’ve already (secretly) decided where we’re eating – now to get the other party on board
- I also kind of hope dinner is done in time to watch hockey. I’m pretty sure my team is going to lose, but I’ll watch none the less
- Tomorrow I’m getting my hair cut and coloured! I’m pumped! It’s so freaking LONG right now! Proof:
- Does that scraggly grey hair stick out for you as much as it does for me?!
- I’ve had Starbucks every day this week – and I’ll be having some tomorrow morning as my hair appointment is at 9am!
- The 9am appointment means seeing Iron Man 3 at 1pm will work out perfectly!
- I’m super pumped for the weekend!
- I’m volunteering to clean up a pathway with my yoga studio on Sunday – I really volunteered because I wanted to spend time outside
- Yay spring!!
- My 30th birthday is in 15 days. Eeps!
- I’m totally excited to turn 30. After the shitshow 29 was I know 30 will be awesome (oh, hey universe? this is NOT an invitation to throw more shit my way. Kthanxbai!)
What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Return of the Food Truck
Last summer I thought it would be fun to try out all the different food trucks in town. It turns out that was a big fat fail, I think I tried two new food trucks. Oops.
The building I work in now seems to be a hot bed for food trucks – there’s a new out parked out front nearly every day!
In trying to save monies and eat healthy, I have a personal rule of bringing my lunch 4/5 days a week and treating myself to a fun lunch once a week. Normally I do this on Friday’s just because…..well, it’s Friday
This week? Wednesday won.
A food truck with wonderful pizza will always win – especially when it’s parked right out front of my building!
My pizza yesterday was so, so yummy, after I ate two slices I was so happy to discover I still had two slices left!
So delicous and oh, so worth it!

Just Another Thursday
Today’s outfit was the result of two outfit changes and it’s really nothing special.
For some reason I woke up exhausted today, I even went to bed at 10:30 and missed the end of the hockey game. (Not that I missed much, we lost, as I expected we would. So…..).
But. Tired.
So putting any effort into my outfit today just wasn’t going to happen. I’m really just looking forward to heading home after work and having a bit of rest.
Yes, I should go for a run, but depending on my level of tired at the end of the day, a nap may just win out. I believe that’s what’s known as balance, my friends

You may want to avert your eyes
My wonderful friend and enabler in fitness, Ann, has convinced me to do a month-long ab challenge.

Ouch, right?!
I’m sure the days I go to yoga and have to do a million chaturanga’s and then have to do the ab challenge will be painful. Worth it, but painful.
Instead of June, we’re doing it in May. (and as such, created a Google doc just for May)
And, well, today’s May (OMG how is it MAY already?! Jeepers) and so we shall begin.
Since I seemingly enjoy 1) posting pictures of myself on my blog and 2) torturing myself I thought it would be fun (read: stupid) to take before and after pictures.
So, here’s the before.
…and here goes nothing.

Dress up Wednesday
I’m nothing if not predictable.
Tuesday’s are rough days, Wednesday’s are the days where I dress up. This is week is no different.
It may be May, but I still wore a winter coat and mittens (mittens!!) on my walk to work this morning. The below freezing temps didn’t deter me from wearing a spring-like skirt, even if the walk in with bare legs was a tad chilly. The weather channel tells me it’ll be gorgeous out by tomorrow, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’re done with snow for good now.

Caramelized Garlic Tart
While reading my new recipe books, as soon as I saw this receipe I just knew it was going to be the first one I was going to make.
Oh my goodness, I’m so glad it was.
The Cowboy came over for dinner and after eating his first piece immediately cut himself a second piece – I think that means it was a hit!
It did take quite a bit of work (blink bake crust, caramelize garlic for 30 minutes, add garlic, cheese and custard to pie shell, bake for 45 minutes) but it was amazing. Certainly not a weeknight dinner, but awesome for a Sunday dinner (or even brunch if you don’t mind garlic mid-morning!).
I used an 11 inch tart pan and have enough leftover that it’ll feed me for lunch this week and so far it’s reheated wonderfully. (I’m certain my co-workers may have different opinions on the tart considering it takes 3 heads of garlic!).
By the time dinner was ready on Sunday I completely forgot to take pictures, so you’ll have to make do with this (better) one from the cookbook.
I kept my receipt from the grocery store so I could do the math for the cost and it came to $32. I’m excluding the cost of the tart pan ($19) as it’ll be used for other recipes and purposes at a later date. It did exceed my $20 goal, but considering I’ll manage 7 servings and needed to buy cheese (delicious, expensive cheese!) and $6 of fresh herbs which I used all of $0.12 of, it’s not too bad at $4.57 per serving.
Also, it’s amazingly deeelicious!
