June Goals
Well. Here we are.
The return of the goals
I took a break in May because it was ridiculous and pretty much just flew by.
- Cut out dairy, grains and processed food (aka NO SUGAR) during the week. I think with the weekends, it’ll be nearly impossible to be successful at all of these during the weekend, but should be relatively successful during the week. So, healthy is is. This also means sangria and food trucking will occur only on weekend days.
- EXERCISE. I certainly did NOT meet my weekly exercise goals from a few weeks back, and then I did NOTHING for an entire WEEK. Not good. At all. I’m going to aim for 5-6 days per week, with exceptions to be made for weddings and travel – however, I can still successfully exercise WHILE traveling

- Continue not spending. Having my MasterCard expire at the end of April and not receiving a replacement meant my spending went WAY down. I want to continue this. Now, I will be purchasing 3 months unlimited yoga for the summer ($83/month instead of $140!) and buying tickets for Stampede events, but no clothes or shoes are needed!
- Post pictures on the blog at least once a week. I’m drawn to visual blogs that have pictures to tell the story, yet I totally fail here. I want to work towards making my blog cooler (ha!) so more pictures it is!
- ENJOY JUNE! So much of April and May were filled with stress and work and sickness that I really want to enjoy June. I want to have fun with The Cowboy and just really, enjoy it.
- Follow my weekly plan. With all the weekends away, life is bound to get ridiculously crazy if I don’t make a plan. I’m also running at 10km race on June 23 AND July 8, so I NEED to get my ARSE out there running and to the gym. Following the plan should help this. THE PLAN SHALL BE FOLLOWED.

Doing healthy wrong
I was Pinteresting earlier this week and came across the below infographic.
“Lose 10 pounds in 7 days”
Yeah. I don’t think so.
I blogged about this before but there is no such thing as negative calories. Ever. At all.
Also, if you need to take a multivitamin AND Vitamin B AND C supplements, your diet is wrong. Especially this one.

Let’s break this down day by day and see where we come out calorie and nutrition wise, shall we?
(Thanks to MFP for the calorie counts!)
Monday
Assuming you eat 1 watermelon (assuming 8 cups diced per melon) and 1 cantaloupe (assuming 6 cups diced per melon) you’ll consume 730 calories between the two melons.
Considering there’s zero protein or fat in any of the above, I’d probably be pretty hungry by lunch, so I might consume an additional watermelon and then maybe have a cantaloupe for dinner.
Total calories: 1460.
Tuesday
Mmmm baked potato with butter: 390 calories
I’d probably eat 1 cucumber, 4 carrots and 3 tomatoes: 221 calories.
At this point I’m so full of fibre I can’t eat anymore.
Total calories: 611.
Yikes.
Not enough to function.
Wednesday
1 cucumber, 4 carrots and 3 tomatoes: 221 calories
1 watermelon and 1 cantaloupe: 730 calories.
Total calories: 951…..and I never want to eat fruit again.
Thursday
8 bananas: 840 calories
8 cups skim milk: 688 calories.
Assuming I don’t puke before eating all the above I’d consume: 1528 calories.
Friday
6 tomatoes: 180 calories
2 chicken breasts: 210 calories
1 turkey breast: 630 calories
Total calories: 1020 and a meat and protein hangover
Saturday
2 chicken breasts: 210 calories
1 turkey breast: 630 calories
1 cucumber, 4 carrots and 3 tomatoes: 221 calories
Total calories: 1061
Sunday
Wacked out soup day.
3 onions: 138 calories
1 head cabbage: 300 calories
6 celery stalks: 30 calories
2 cans tomatoes: 320 calories
Lipton beefy onion soup: 400 calories (and 9000 mg of sodium!!!!)
Total calories: 1188 and a whole lotta sodium
Sure doesn’t sound like a plan I want to try anytime soon.
A better plan?
Eat healthy and do this:

Summer Goals
In addition to basically booking every.single.summer.weekend with plans, The Cowboy and I have determined we have 2 goals that will make this summer completely and utterly awesome.
#1
Perfect homemade sangria so we don’t have to buy the $22 bottles from Williams Sonoma.
I’ve done TONS of searching and am not keen on adding sparkling water to wine, so any recipe that includes sparking water is automatically out.
If you have a favourite recipe, send it my way! We’ll be working our way through recipes all summer and will conclude on the best recipe sometime in August. (all recipes will also be pinned to Pinterest)
#2
Eat at every every Calgary food truck over the summer. The current list includes:
- Alley Burger
- Fries and Dolls
- Fiasco Gelato
- Los Comprades
- Mighty Skillet
- The Naaco Truck
- The Noodle Bus
- Perogy Boyz
- Purple Pastry Chef
- Blam!wich
- Snoberry Ice
- Schwarma
- H-Appy Truck
- Jojos BBQ
- Pimentos
- Holy Crepe
Compelete list here
I imagine it will take us quite a while to get through them all. Thankfully Calgary has a super website to assist in locating where most of the trucks will be located.
If we can complete the above, I’m pretty sure it’ll make out for a really awesome summer.
After taking a hiatus from my goals in May, June goals will be coming up a bit later this week. How in the WORLD is it already JUNE?! Does it feel like may FLEW BY to anyone else?!

Weekends
Similarly to Ann, I recently took inventory of all the going ons for the next few weeks.
I thought we weren’t going to be very busy this summer.
I was wrong.
Starting with this weekend
- Fly to Vancouver for 48 hours for family visits and a concert
- Next…..photograph a wedding
- Followed by……housewarming party on Friday and a day in the Spruce Meadows Box on Saturday (yay)
- 7 days later…….fly to Kelowna to celebrate Father’s Day with the respective fathers (and a late Mother’s Day celebration with my MIL)
- shortly thereafter…….spend Thursday & Friday in Vancouver and get home in time to run a 10k race on Sunday
- long weekend! Spent at a 2 day Indian wedding and 2 days cleaning for a family visit
- Stampede week: dad and girlfriend arrive on Thursday, Stampede parade Friday, rodeo Friday, 10k race on Sunday
- marking exams all weekend
- UFC 149 party at our place because we were too poor to buy tickets
- Weekend off. I think? I hope. (for those of you keeping up, this is the weekend of July 28. Wowzers)
- Possibly marking exams
- More marking exams
- Weekend off!
- Weekend off!
- Potentially flying to Kelowna (woo!) for Labour Day weekend. Yes, Labour Day. Turns out my summer is pretty much already mapped out for me.
This happened last year as well. It looks like I may need a vacation from my summer.

A day in the life: Thursday
One of my favourite kinds of posts to read is how other bloggers to day-to-day.
I’ve had this planned in the back of my mind, oh forever, but, much like WIAW, I forget to take the pictures to go along with the story.
Thursday I finally remembered to take pictures
Enjoy!
10 minutes before my alarm is set to go off, I’m awoken by pathetic you don’t love us meows. Being the pushover that I am, I crawl out of bed, open the bedroom door and crawl back into bed with this:
This is a terrible picture and it’s hard to tell, by Maverick is kneading and sucking on the brown blanket. It’s his security blanket. I’m told he’ll do this forever as it’s something he does to comfort himself as a result of being weaned so, so early.
Merlin is content to purr and attack feet at the end of the bed.
I <3 kitten cuddle time, even if it does mean I wake up at 6am.
I finally drag my butt out of bed to get ready for the day.
Step 1:
Merlin plays in the bathtub while I do bathroom things.
Step 2:
Coffee and iPad time. I like to give myself 15-20 minutes to enjoy my coffee and do some blog reading before really getting ready for the day.
I have to say, I really, really, really LOVE my iPad.
Time to start packing my lunch!
Egg salad with spinach on sprouted grain. Yum! I’m not normally much of a sandwich fan, but this week egg salad just seemed to speak to me.
Everything ready to go!
Now it’s time to get dressed.
Quick search in my closet for a dress and some leggings so I can turn this:
Into this:
Not too shabby.
Weather check:
Ugh. GROSS.
Time to find a jacket that’ll keep me warm AND dry. Not an easy task when most of my jackets are either wool for a cold winter or a light shell for a warm and rainy spring.
Very much not pleased that I’m wearing a winter jacket in MAY.
C’mon Calgary, what the heck?!
Rain boots are also important!
Time to head out the door……
….into the elevator…..
…..and out into the rain.
Thankfully I only needed to walk in the rain for about 15 minutes before I could pop into the indoor walkway system to walk the rest of the way to my client
Made it to the client after 30 minutes after walking – and only a little bit like a drowned rat!
Whew!
Breakfast time!
Enjoyed with a view of the rainy weather.
Time to write up the “to do” list and get down to work!
I spent my morning switching back and forth between clients and answering emails from students about our qualification program. Whew! Busy, busy morning!
Snack time! I don’t normally eat “snacky” things, but I was hangry so a blueberry square was had. Yum!
I only fully crossed off 4 items on my “to do” list before lunch, but I tend to include more work than I can do in a day to keep me motivated and moving along.
Mmmm. Yummy egg sandwich time.
It was so delicious I could have eaten two……but it’s probably a good thing I didn’t
More crossing off items on the “to do” list this afternoon.
And a stressful phone call from The Cowboy about our business.
Hrmph.
Not always a fun phone call to get during the day…….
Thankfully it was almost home time.
And home time means…..
Beer!
While discussing said stressful business situation.
Next up?
Dinner prep!
I was kept company by this guy while cooking:
He thinks he’s sneaky.
He’s not
Dinner is served. Simple, but very yum!
And you know what they say about beans?
Yeah…….it’s true…..
Grab the suitcase!
It’s time to:
…..shower…….
……gather toiletries……
…..and pack!
We’re headed to Vancouver at 5pm on Friday.
Yay!
Next up?
Feed the kitties.
Make some tea.
Watch Revenge.
We didn’t start watching until a few days ago and are only on episode 6 but we’re loving the show! I have a feeling it really won’t take us long at all to catch up.
Time for bed!
G’night
