Getting Ready for 2012
Waaaaay back at the beginning of December I started a 2011 in review post and made it to August. It’s still not finished. Until I finish it (and I will!) here’s a bit of a recap by way of the 2011 meme that’s going around.
Before we get to the meme – a sampling of the WordPress 2011 in review
- Total views 16,000
- Total new posts 66 (must do better in 2012!)

What did you do in 2011 that you’ve never done before
Bought a kitten. Quit my “new” job and went back to my “old” job. Flew to Halifax to meet up with people I met on the Internet (and no one was a crazy axe murderer!).
Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Here are my 2011 resolutions.
- Drink less booze: fail. Big time fail.
- Run more: nope. Injuries sidelined me for MONTHS.
- Eat less junk: meh. Not great, but I don’t think it was an epic fail either.
- Take more pictures: fail. I actually think I took fewer pictures in 2011.
- Choose to be happy: I did okay here, but can definitely do better.
- Spend less: big time fail.
I have a few goals for 2012 already posted, but I’ll also be doing another post this week with some concrete resolutions.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, although 2012 should be big for babies with my friends.
Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandma
What countries did you visit?
Only the US to go to Anaheim with friends. So fun!
What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Organization. Time to go to the gym. Less stress. Less worry. A better outlook.
What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 5, 2011 – the day my grandma passed away.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Quitting my new job and going back to my old job. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but it was the best one.
What was your biggest failure?
Eating healthy, finding time to go to the gym, focussing on my marriage, saving money.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just my annoying shin splints that have kept be from running since October 8. Dumb shins.
What was the best thing you bought?
I think, without a doubt, it has to be this guy.
Where did most of your money go?
Clothes, Sephora, mortgage, travel.
What did you get really excited about?
Spending time with my family, making new friends, spending time with my friends and husband, bad TV, hockey, good food, good wine, good pictures.
What song will always remind you of 2011?
Anything by Adele – she was on my playlist all year.
Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
Happier.
Fatter.
Richer.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Slept. Rested. Gymmed. Ate healthy.
What do you wish you’d done less of?
Drinking booze. Eating crappy. Stressing. Worrying. Getting upset.
How did you spend Christmas?
Just The Cowboy and I. Started the day with mimosas and stockings, watched Mission Impossible and enjoyed some turkey pot pie for dinner.
What was your favorite TV program?
Grey’s Anatomy, The Bachelor, Vampire Diaries. Yes, I’m secretly a teenager
What were your favorite books of the year?
The Millennium series. I’m not sure why it took me so long to read them, but I LOVED ‘em.
What was your favorite music from this year?
Adele and Michael Buble.
What were your favorite films of the year?
Oh, wow. This is difficult. The Cowboy and I see so many movies and I’m absolutely horrid at recalling them.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28 and rode my bike to work, ate cake and drank margaritas when I came home. Quiet and excellent.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If The Cowboy and I were on the same page more and had more date nights.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
A lot of times, “is it clean” and “does it look cute”.
What kept you sane?
My blog and the people on the Interwebz.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
Being busy is better than being bored; however, taking time to recharge is so, so important.
