Rainy Season
Another storm rolled into Calgary around dinner time tonight.
I’m loving that all the storms are rolling in south of us, we still get some rain, but not the downpour, and it makes for some fantastic picture taking opportunities!
I may have used the rain as a reason not to run this evening.
I’ve been feeling under the weather (sore throat and my ears are bugging me) so I made myself a big mug of tea and am chilling on the couch, watching the storms instead.
I’m really hoping this cold doesn’t stick around since I’m hopping on a plane for a family party on Saturday. Go away cold!

Decadent Monday
Monday marked the first day of our attempt to be organized.
The Cowboy installed our new Ikea pull out garbage and organizer containers while I cooked with our weekly meal plan.
The Cowboy and I are notoriously horrible at planning meals. A regular weeknight goes something like this:
“What do you want for dinner?”
“I don’t know, what do you want?”
“I don’t care, I asked YOU what YOU wanted”
And so forth.
Not good on the waistline or the pocketbook.
So I printed one of Missy’s Meal Planning 101 templates and went to work on Saturday night.
This is what I came up with.
Then we headed to the Farmer’s Market on Sunday and picked up what we needed for the week.
My first impressions: writing it down I was able to tell what I needed. I didn’t need to buy a pack of chicken breasts because we have some in the freezer and chicken wasn’t on the menu! I didn’t overbuy stuff I didn’t need, either, because I knew that we’d be going for dinner on Wednesday and that The Cowboy would be out of town on Friday and I was heading out of town on Saturday.
We modified Monday’s meal a bit from what was planned when we realized we’d need to buy pierogies and we had fingerling potatoes in the fridge. Pierogies replaced with potatoes. Problem solved!
Did anyone else know that you could buy pink fingerling potatoes?!
Chicken apple sausages are from our local market, all humanely sourced local meat. Yum! Topped off with corn and potatoes from the farmers market.
Oh, and a beer
For dessert, I gave the banana soft serve a shot and oh.my.gosh. This is definitely a winner in our house!
The soft serve was topped with a few squares of melted cookies and cream chocolate bars and some Apricot Dessert wine from a fruit winery.
Definitely a more calorie rich dinner than normal, but oh, so yummy!
You should also check out the insane view from our condo Monday evening. It rained in Calgary, but no where near us!

Turning over a New Leaf
You may have guessed that I’ve been doing a bit of shopping as of late.
No?
You didn’t guess that?
Oh.
Well I have.
And – I think I’m done.
Sure, it’s nice to buy a new pair of jeans, or a pair of cute shoes, but I’ve realized I don’t really need them.
Not at all.
My closet is stocked!
The Cowboy and I are flying to Anaheim on October 20 to do some relaxing and shopping.
My challenge for myself is to not purchase anything between now and when we go to Anaheim.
That’s 3 months, folks.
Three months of no shopping.
No shoes, no jeans, no tops, no dresses, no accessories, no make-up.
Nothing.
Na-da.
If, say, I run out of deodorant, that’s fair game.
But I can’t buy deodorant just because a new smell came out and I want to try it. That’s against the rules.
It’s going to be a challenge especially with Beyond the Rack and HauteLook emails filling my inbox daily – but – I really don’t need any of that crap.
My time and money will be better spent eating healthfully, running and going to yoga.
So, that’s my challenge and I’m putting it out there for the world to see.
