You May Have Missed….
If you’re wondering what’s up with the header, I did a bit of blog redesign over the weekend, but I’m still waiting on a new logo from The Cowboy. For now, please bear with me
I’m spending 40 hours in Winnipeg for my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary. I’m sure my trip will be filled with fun (and probably some family drama on the side).
While I’m away (and since it’s Saturday) here’s what you may have missed this weekend on the blog.
- Can I go 3 months without shopping? (yikes!)
- The finale of my Stampede pictures
- I had to make a colour-coded calendar of the next 3 months because they’re so crazy
- I only purchase clothing in 2 colours
- The easiest way ever to do your hair!

Weekly Wears: Athletic Edition
I feel like I’m posting a lot of similar outfits, but I did order some new workout clothes from Lululemon including a running skirt and with me posting all about my half marathon training, I thought it might be fun to switch it up for a week and post about what I wear when biking/running/yogi’ing instead.
Wednesday
Yup, you’re reading that right, no clothes until Wednesday of this week. Bad on my part.
I actually managed to do my long run on Sunday (9.8km) so I decided to rest on Monday and Tuesday I was feeling under the weather, so I decided to chill and rest instead of pushing my body.
Here’s what I wore for my 6km run on Wednesday.
(Now, this list is kind of embarassing for me)
Hat – Lululemon
Shirt – Lululemon
Run Skirt – Lululemon
The coolest part of this outfit is the top. It’s designed to be worn in the summer as it has UPF and breathes wonderfully.
Thursday
I tried something a bit different on Thursday and signed up for a 6:30am yoga class. That’s early for this girl, I like to wake up at 7am. I know, I’m lazy
Lucky for me, I laid everything out before bed, so all I had to do was wake up, down some coconut water to rehydrate and head on out the door.
Pants – Lululemon
Top – OneTooth
As soon as I walked in the door from work on Thursday (I may have come home a little early. What? It’s my second to last day!) I tossed on my running clothes and headed out the door for another 6km run. I was inspired by Emily at The Daily Garnish and signed up for a second half marathon this fall, so I’d better get to training!
Except, the run didn’t go so well. I made it about 500m in and my right shin was killing me so I decided to turn around and ice it instead.
Hat – Lululemon
Top – Lululemon
Shorts – Lululemon
Friday
No yoga this morning. I thought about heading out, but I was having a bit of an issue with my girly parts (if you know what I mean) so I decided yoga was probably not the best idea.
No run either
My shin was hurting while sitting at my desk (LAST DAY OF WORK!) so I picked up a bandage, tape and new runners and rested it for Friday.
Yes, two pairs of shoes. I’m going to be walking to work and decided it’s probably not very good for my shin to be walking in heels, so sneakers it is (they are Nike LunarGlide+ 3) I also switched up the runners to the ones on the left (Brooks Ravenna 2). Along with the shoes I picked up two types of kines tape, RockTape and Kinesology Tape.
Hopefully these changes keep my shins happy!
I know I’m not supposed to be spending, but my shin started hurting after I started running in these shoes, so hopefully new runners (with better arch support) will help.
Saturday
No run again. I decided to give my shin the weekend to rest in the hopes that it’ll be ready to go on Monday.
Fingers crossed!

Grilled Cheese and Cleaning
Important stuff first folks, grilled cheese.
Not just any grilled cheese, but the most amazing, delicious, summery grilled cheese you will ever (EVER!) taste!
Mmmmmmm.
Here’s what you’ll need, margarine or butter (I used vegan Becel), tomato, pesto, mozzarella and bread. The olives are my pre-dinner snack
Start by buttering the outside of the bread while your pan or grill heats up (I strongly recommend using a grill – so much crispier!)
Fold the buttered sides into one another and spread a healthy layer of pesto on one slice of bread. Make your own pesto, or do what I do and buy freshly made pesto from your local market. Freshly made pesto is fresher and more basil-y than the jarred kind.
Slice up your ‘mater and layer on the pesto.
Top it all off with your mozzarella. I use buffalo mozzarella or larger bocchini, rather than pizza mozzarella. Bocchini normally isn’t very salty, so you may want to add some finishing salt to your sandwich. The pesto I used was salty enough (trust me, you don’t want this under-salted!)
Now, toss your sandwich on the grill and listen to it sizzle!
Close ‘er up and wait 3-5 minutes……
….snack on some olives while you wait the 3-5 minutes…
Arrange everything on the plate and enjoy!
Note that grilled cheese sandwiches must always be cut on the diagonal (I may have once told The Cowboy that he ruined my sandwich when he didn’t cut it on the diagonal!)
Is that a good lookin’ sammy, or what?!
It was SOOOOO yummy!
After fueling with the sammy (and a glass of merlot!) I tackled my bathroom.
As part of our organizational project, I knew I had to do something with my bathroom, so I got to it tonight since The Cowboy is gone for the weekend.
This is what the bathroom looked like mid-project.
Yikes!
You’ll be comforted to hear that I got rid of 3 garbage bags worth of stuff that hadn’t been used in ages! The Cowboy will be so pleased to see the new bathroom when he gets home.
Check it out!
Ahhhh! So much better!
Not the most eventful Friday evening, but it did need to be done!
I even finished in time to meet some friends for dessert and coffee.
Now? It’s packing time. I’m off to spend 40 hours in Winnipeg in the morning!
Read MoreStarbucks Friday
When I worked downtown every Friday I’d stop by Starbucks or my favourite bakery for breakfast and coffee.
Some weeks, especially in busy season, the only thing that would get me through the week was knowing I’d be enjoying a spinach and feta wrap or a greek yogurt parfait with coffee at the end of the week.
I’m not yet back downtown, but I decided to start the tradition a little early but heading to Starbucks for breakfast and lunch today
Breakfast was yummy, with the exception of dumping green tea lemonade on my new sweater. Hrmph. (GTL’s don’t taste that great after brushing your teeth, either).
Health-wise the breakfast wrap isn’t bad. Total calories 280, 10g of fat and 18g of protein.
For lunch I decided to give the new Bistro Box a whirl. I’m not a big fan of Starbucks sandwiches, they always seem to be too bready. I’d heard good things about the Bistro Box, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
I’m also hoping I can find a Bistro Box at the Starbucks in the airport tomorrow so I can have some lunch on the plane.
Nutrition-wise the sesame noodle Bistro Box isn’t stellar, but it’s not terrible, either. At 450 calories with 12g of fat and 16g of protein. Personally, I’d like to see a little more protein and a lot less sodium, but it is prepackaged food.
The vegetables were surprisingly crisp and fresh. I was expecting squishy broccoli, but it was tender crisp and yummy! Definitely a decent tasting convenient lunch.
All in, all 730 calories for both breakfast and lunch is very reasonable, especially since I’m going to factor that in and eat a salad for dinner. I might even splurge with a glass of wine!
